International

In the summer of 2011 a long held goal of the Joru Foundation was achieved. Sengdruk Taktse graduates Jigme Dawa and Jigme Trodral were granted student visas by the Chinese government to study at Spokane Community College in Washington State. Jigme Dawa and Jigme Trodral are members of the first graduating class of Sengdruk Takste students. They both graduated in 2008 with outstanding achievements.

Jigme Dawa

Jigme Dawa is a young man from humble beginnings. In his own words,

My name is Jigme Dawa. I am from Sangruma, Darlag County, Golok. When I was one and half years old, my mother became sick and passed away. When I was three years old, my father also died from an illness. My sister was nine years old when my father passed away. We lived together and she took care of me. We used to cry when nobody was around. Because of this situation, our principal Khentrul Kunzang Gyaltsen gave me permission to come to Sengdruk Taktse School.

Jigme Dawa

In 2008 Jigme Dawa had the highest test scores out of any graduating student in the entire Golok region. He has also been voted best student at Sengdruk Takste School and is recognized as being a wonderful poet with numerous published works of Tibetan poetry.

Jigme Dawa is an extremely kind and caring individual with great intellectual curiosity and a genuine desire to accomplish great things in life as well as to help others.

Jigme Trodral

Jigme Trodral

Jigme Trodral is an exceptional young man who was also part of the first graduating class of Sengdruk Taktse students. Like Jigme Dawa, he comes from a humble background. He lived the early years of his life as a nomad, and also lost his parents at a young age.

Jigme Trodral had the third highest test scores in Golok in 2008 and is also an accomplished writer with published books of poetry. He is very intelligent, hard working, conscientious, and altruistic, not to mention an amazing athlete.

Opportunity to Study in America
These two amazing young men now have the rare opportunity to study in America. While both of them were accepted into Universities in China, they both feel that the educational opportunities afforded to them in America surpass those in China. They are currently attending Spokane Falls Community College in Spokane WA where they are studying English language intensively.
Cost
The cost to be an international student in America is quite expensive, even at the Community College level. Many international students that come to America come from fairly wealthy families that are able to pay their tuition. Jigme Dawa and Jigme Trodral have no such family that can help them with their tuition. Even if they did have family, it is doubtful that a nomadic Tibetan living in a very rural area of Tibet would have enough money to pay cost of the tuition.Whether you would like to make a one time donation, or to sponsor one of these students on a monthly basis, please know that every penny you spend on these two young men will not go to waste. Investing in these two wonderful students will definitely bring results and will not go to waste.
