Sengdruk Taktse School - Class of 2008

The Sengdruk Taktse graduating class of 2008 was the first group of students to graduate from Sengdruk Taktse School. In China and Tibet, ninth graders are required to take a standardized test upon completion of 9th grade in order to determine which colleges they will attend for 10-12th grades. In a display of academic excellence, the Sengdruk Taktse ninth graders together had the highest test scores out of any school in Golok. In addition to that, Jigme Dawa from Sengdruk Taktse School had the highest individual test scores out of any student in Golok. Jigme Todral, his classmate, was the third highest scoring student in Golok.

Many of the graduating ninth graders are now attending excellent schools, some in the capital of Golok, some in Amdo, and a group of 5 students are attending college in Beijing. As the first graduating class of this school, these are proven results that the education these students receive at Sengdruk Taktse School is of the highest calibre.

If we consider for a moment where these students would be if they had not had the opportunity to attend Sengdruk Taktse School, it is the probably the case that the majority of them would still be living as farmers and herders, or even beggars. What kind of a difference has receiving an education made in their lives? The results can already be seen now. Who knows what kind of positive impact these students will have on the future of this region and others?
