Sonam Gyaltsen is from Dzuktrun, Darlag County, Golok. When he was one and a half years old, his parents separated after an argument. After their separation, his mother did not look after him but left for another region of Tibet instead. He then went to live with his grandfather and he entered this school when he was 10 years old.
