Lakshey Zangpo was born in Padma, Golok in 1974. He entered Dho Gonpa at the age of 15. At the age of 17 he went to Khenpo Jigme Phuntsok's Buddhist academy, Larung Gar. He stayed there for seven years. He received all the Nyingma teachings and empowerments from Khenpo Jigme Phuntsok, Khenpo Tsultrim Lodro, and Khenpo Chimey Rigzin. While, at Larung Gar, he served as one of 25 "Geku", and he also served as an administator of one of the shops at Larung Gar.

While at Larung Gar, Khenpo Kunzang and Lakshey Zangpo shared a very close friendship. In 1999 Khenpo Kunzang invited Lakshey Zangpo to attend the opening of Sengdruk Taktse School, at which time Khenpo Kunzang requested Lakshey Zangpo to help him with the school. In 2002 Lakshey Zangpo met Khenpo Kunzang in Padma, where he again strongly requested him to help with Sengdruk Taktse School. At that time, Lakshey Zangpo promised Khenpo Kunzang that he would help in any way he could to ensure the success of Sengdruk Taktse School.

He currently lives in Berkeley where he is diligently studying English, doing some translation work, and trying to develop a support structure for Sengdruk Taktse from America.

In a letter of support, Khenpo Kunzang Jigme Gyaltsen writes:

Lakshey Zangpo, the trustworthy, reliable teacher and vice principal of Kumkar Sengdruk Taktse School, does not shy away from difficult tasks, instead he faces them directly. I heartily request that you support his aspirations in any way possible. The future well-being of the poor orphans of this school depends on your support.
