My name is Gendun Nyima. I am from Kyidkar, Padma County, Golok. When I was six years old, I attended the local village school at Kyidkar. However, after three years the only thing I was taught was the Tibetan alphabet. Then I heard from other people about Sengdruk Taktse School and that it was a very good school, and I had the constant wish that I would be able to study there. I also come from a poor family, and we couldn't afford to pay school fees after paying taxes to the government for Yartsa Gunbu (Tibetan medicinal herb that many Tibetans gather and sell). My parents felt strongly that I should come to Sengdruk Taktse School, so they made a request and I entered in 2002.
