Accomplishments

The Joru Foundation is still a very young organization with lots of potential. Our work is very specific and we are not trying to “do everything”. Because our focus is concentrated mainly on Sengdruk Taktse School in Golok and the community surrounding this school, we run less of a risk of losing focus on what we are trying to do. We believe that focusing on a single area and not too many projects is an effective approach. While the work we do may seem narrow to some, we feel that focusing on a microcosm will undoubtedly ripple outwards and effect the entire macrocosm.

Some of our accomplishments thus far:

1. 13 students have been sponsored
2. 4 people have joined as members
3. Contributions allowed Joru Foundation to pay for all textbooks for grades 1 through 5
4. Awarded 4 scholarships to top two graduating male students and top two graduating female students
5. Recruited a volunteer English teacher currently teaching at Sengdruk Taktse School for 1 year.

In the near future, some of our goals include:

1. Increasing amount of sponsored students
2. Increasing amount of members
3. Publishing a traditional Tibetan astrological calendar that was created by the students of Sengdruk Taktse school using traditional methods
4. Funding the building of a traditional Tibetan Medical College, also known as a “Mentseekhang”
5. Installing solar power at the school to reduce electricity costs and raise environmental awareness.
6. Bring a graduating student to the United States to study at a college
